Plateau govt tasks donors to redeem pledge to armed forces

The Plateau State Government, on Thursday, commenced the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day with the launch of an appeal fund for the Armed Forces Emblem aimed at raising resources to assist in addressing the challenges faced by the widows and other family members of the Nigeria Army.

On the occasion, the Commander of the Joint Military Task Force deployed to restore peace on the Plateau, code name Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), Major General Tagbo Ude, enjoined donors, comprising members of the Plateau State Government and other individuals, to ensure that they redeemed their pledges.

In the words of Ude, “it is a common practice every year for us to gather and make pledges for our fallen heroes, but most people who pledge don’t redeem their pledges. We are aware that the pledges made last year have not been fully collected. So, I urge us to endeavour to redeem our pledges, so that we can effectively archive the aims and objective of the annual event”, he said.

The Commandant who pledged the sum of N200, 000, on behalf of his Command.

Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, who was also at the event said that “the launch marks the beginning of the sales of the emblem which is a week-long annual event, set aside by the Federal Government to remember and honour our compatriots and fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives in defence of the dignity of humanity, the sovereignty of our nation and the preservation of our destiny”.
