PH International Airport workers protest over poor welfare conditions

The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) Port Harcourt International Airport Chapter on Friday staged a protest over what they described as poor conditions of workers’ welfare. Citing other work related matters as some of their grievances, the union was also protesting the delay in the release of conditions of service of all aviation agencies by the national salaries and common wages commission. The aggrieved employees were seen at the international airport carrying different placards with various inscriptions and chanting solidarity songs to drive home their points. The workers barricaded the offices of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). The protest, however, did not affect flight operations at the international airport as airlines and passengers went about their businesses without harassment by the workers. Efforts to reach the aviation transport management failed. Recall, however, that the National President of NUATE, Comrade Ben Nnabue, had earlier told journalists that for quite a long time the workers and management of the aviation agencies had signed the conditions of services, which were yet to be implemented.
