The major opposition Party, People’s Democratic Party, PDP, suffered another major defection through its member, representing Jaba/Zango Kataf Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Rep Amos Gwamna Magaji.
Rep Magaji announced his defection from his party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in a letter, read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, APC, Kaduna, at resumed plenary on Tuesday.
The lawmaker, who is also Chairman, House Committee on Health Care Services and leader, Kaduna Caucus in the Green Chamber said his defection was informed by unresolved crisis in PDP at the national, to all levels.
His defection brought the total number of PDP lawmakers who defected to APC in the 10th House to four. The previous defectors include; Reps Chris Nkwonta, Abia, Eriatheke Ibori-Suenu, Delta, and Suleiman Gumi, Zamfara State.
Just last week, Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North Senatorial District, dumped the PDP for the APC in a grand style at the Red Chambers and later, presented himself to the APC National Working Committee, NWC, led by Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The Minority Leader in the House, Rep Kingsley Chinda, PDP Rivers, who objected to Magaji’s defection, asked Speaker Abbas to declare the lawmaker’s seat vacant saying; “the Jaba/Zango Kataf representative did not comply with provisions of the law under Section 68 (1g) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, hence he should be made to lose his seat.”
