PDP Northern Elders seek shift of national convention
The Northern Elders Forum of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has joined in the call for the postponement of the May 21 national convention of the Party. The Forum, under the leadership of former Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana, which met in Abuja late Wednesday night, said the postponement was to give room for reconciliation by aggrieved members.
The Concerned PDP Leaders, led by former Niger State governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, had earlier pushed for the postponement of the convention due to observed flaws in the ongoing congresses across the states.
The Prof Gana-led Forum declared that the present members of the National Working Committee (NWC) should vacate their offices on May 21.
The Forum frowned at what it called the level of impunity and imposition in PDP, stressing that for the party to return to the vision of its original founders it must purge itself of these vices.
It also picked holes in the proposed constitutional amendment, pointing out that that it violates the PDP constitution.
