PDP NEC finally retains National Chair’s post in N/E

The National Executive Committee, (NEC), meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP), has approved the recommendation of its zoning committee to retain the national chairmanship position of the party in the North East geo-political zone.
This is even as the interim National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff said he was yet to make up his mind on whether to contest in the forthcoming national convention of the party billed for Port Harcourt, the Rivers’ State capital.
Senator Sheriff was appointed in February to complete the tenure of the North East.
The PDP zoning committee, headed by Akwa Ibom State governor, Mr Emmanuel Udom, had also zoned the position of deputy national chairman to South-South and national secretary to the South West.
The PDP National Chairman, who spoke to journalists on Thursday at the end of the NEC meeting in Abuja, assured that he would make his decision public whenever he makes up his mind to seek re-election.
According to Sheriff: “we have successfully finished the meeting; we adopted all the resolutions without any dissenting voice.
“We have also agreed that the body will meet again on May 11 on constitutional review. We have received report from convention committee who said they are ready for convention. Therefore, everything we have said to you before is on course,” he said.
The PDP national convention has already been slated for May 21 this year in Port Harcourt.
Speaking further, Sheriff tagged the party’s recent rally in Jigawa State as successful, saying, “what they saw in Jigawa State is just the beginning. We will go to all the states and capture them back”.
Also speaking, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekwerenmadu congratulated Jigawa on the rally, saying it is a good sign that the party is bouncing back.
The Governor of Gombe State, Alhaji Ibrahim Dankwambo, who spoke on behalf of the PDP Governors Forum, assured that the forum will abide by the decision of the NEC.
But, the acting chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Sen. Walid Jubrin, said he has decided not to attend any meeting except a properly organized meeting.
He cautioned members of the party to be very careful the way they hold meetings.
Some of the governors in attendance at the PDP NEC meeting were: Barr Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Mr Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Alhaji Hassan Dankwambo (Gombe), Mr Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom) and Prof Ben Ayade (Cross Rivers).
