Dr Femi Oyetunji, Group MD/CEO of Continental Reinsurance, said, “There are immense opportunities in the insurance and reinsurance sector in Africa. The Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards have been set up to encourage journalists to develop their knowledge and expertise of this sector. We hereby invite eligible journalists to enter the awards. ”
Nike Popoola of Nigeria’s Punch newspaper was the first winner of the Pan-African Reinsurance Journalist of the Year Award. She said, “I was truly humbled to be recognised by a panel of renowned international judges at last year’s ceremony. The insurance sector is making a vital contribution to Africa’s economy and it deserves more attention in the media. These awards are a great initiative for journalists like me who are interested in the development of our continent.”
An international panel comprising of industry experts and academics in journalism will judge the Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards 2017 entries. The panel will evaluate all submitted material according to the quality of information and how it contributes to raising awareness of the sector in Africa.
The three categories in the 2017 awards are:

- Best Re/Insurance Industry Analysis and Commentary
- Best Re/Insurance Industry Feature Article
The winners will be announced at the Continental Reinsurance CEO Forum in April 2017.
