Oyo NUJ to boycott Fani-Kayode’s visit to the state

The ongoing media backlash surrounding former minister of aviation in Nigeria, Femi Fani-Kayode has taken another twist as the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists has joined its Akwa Ibom counterparts in blacklisting the former PDP spokesperson.

This was contained in a directive by State NUJ Chairman, Ademola Babalola, who made the call during a live radio programme, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

During the radio programme, the state NUJ chairman directed all journalists in the state to shun any press conference called by the former minister as he continues his tour of PDP states in the country.

Recall that the Akwa Ibom state branch of the Nigeria Union of Journalists had earlier taken a similar stance when it directed its members to boycott any press conference held by Fani-Kayode while he was in the South-South state sometime last week; in retaliation for FFK’s attack on a Daily Trust journalist, Eyo Charles, during his visit to Cross River state.

Eyo, during a press conference in Calabar, had asked the former minister who was bankrolling him in his tour, enraging a visibly upset FFK who poured invectives on the stupefied Eyo Charles who kept apologizing to no avail.

Fani-Kayode, in the wake of the incident, has tendered profound apologies for his actions, but it appears the NUJ are intensely committed to exacting vengeance on the man whose actions attempted to undermine and denigrate the profession of journalism.
