Osun govt warns Olapade Agoro against parading self as monarch

The Osun State government, on Monday, cautioned Dr. Olapade Agoro, to henceforth stop parading himself as the Atapami of Itapa-Ijesa, a town in the state.
The government, in a letter dated August 19, 2016 and signed by , the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, Water Resources, Rural and Community Affairs, Femi Ogundun, copies of which were available to newsmen, declared that the title Atapami of Itapa-Ijesa does not exist.
According to the state government, after considering series of petitions received from the chambers of the Elerinmo-in-Council, indigenes and non-indigene of Erinmo community, Erinmo-Ijesa Elders Forum and erudite legal practitioners, it came to the conclusion that there is no chieftaincy title called Atapami of Itapa-Ijesa.
The letter reads: “Atapami of Itaoa-Ijesa is non existent and you should stop parading yourself as a holder of a nonexistent title as this runs contrary to section 21 sub – sections 3(9) and (b) of the chief’s law, cap. 25, laws of the state of Osun, 2012.”
The government noted that it had earlier advised Agoro on the matter, adding that: “This (the new letter) reaffirms the piece of advice earlier conveyed to your good self vide our letter CD. 9/19/volume.111/555 of 20th, November, 2006.
“You are to stop disturbing the peace of Erinmo-Ijesa and other communities of the state. The security agencies have been requested to ensure that you do not engage in any activity that would threaten the prevailing peace in Erinmo-Ijesa and it’s environ and to also ensure that you stop parading yourself as Oba”.
