Oredo Ward 7 PDP Youth Leader Narrowly Escapes Death As 2 Die In Attack On Campaign Vehicle
No fewer than 2 persons have been confirmed dead after suspected political thugs of the opposition party were said to have ambushed and attacked a campaign bus conveying the youth leader of the People’s Democratic Party in ward 7 Elvis Igbinosun along with other supporters of the party.
It was gathered that the campaign bus conveying the youth leader and other members of the PDP was returning from a campaign rally where they had gone to canvas for votes for their preferred candidate in the forthcoming local government election for the PDP candidate of Dr.Tom Obaseki as the thugs drove side by side with them and opened fire on the vehicle.
An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that the PDP campaign bus was suddenly ambushed as the opposition thugs reportedly fire on the occupants of the vehicle.
Two members of the PDP supporters were reportedly confirmed dead on the spot as others hurriedly scampered for safety after disembarking from the bus and fled in different directions, it was confirmed.
Speaking with a member of the PDP after shortly after the dastardly attack who spoke on condition of anonymity, our correspondent gathered that suspected thugs of the opposition party were earlier on the trail of the youth leader of the party in ward 7 Elvis Igbinosun for throwing his weight behind Dr.Tom Obaseki.
It was said that desperate efforts had been made earlier to sway his mind to switch his loyalty and support to the opposition but he remained committed to his party which invariably exposed him to severe security threats in August 2023.
At the time of filing in this report, the 2 corpses were said to have been deposited at a local mortuary while the injured supporters have been hospitalized at an undisclosed location receiving urgent medical attention.
Meanwhile, the police in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City claimed it has commenced investigation into the alleged murder of 2 supporters of the PDP who were ambushed and attacked by suspected thugs adding that all the culprits involved in the case would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly for murder.
