Ondo PDP expels factional executive led By Biyi Poroye

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has expelled the Biyi Poroye led faction of the party which is sympathetic to the former Ali Modu Sheriff led executive.

Mr. Poroye was suspended on Friday along with Johnson Alabi, Yemi Ajonibode and Ademola Genty in a statement issued in Akure, the state capital.

The statement was signed by the party’s state chairman, Clement Faboyede.

Mr. Poroye’s faction of the party had supported the candidature of Jimoh Ibrahim against the ambition of Eyitayo Jegede who later became the flag bearer of the PDP in the November 26, 2016 guber poll in the state following court judgement.

Mr. Faboyede in the statement said the factional group was suspended after the leaders of the party rose from its State Executives Council (SEC) meeting held at the party’s office.

He noted that the suspended individuals shunned invitations to appear before the State Disciplinary Committee of the party and described the action as “disrespectful to the party and its constitution.”

“We note most disappointingly that the dissolved illegal Poroye led executive remains irreconcilable, intransigent and disloyal to the party’s goals.

“This is clearly attested to by the many provocative and irresponsible vulgar vituperations in both the formal media and social media.

“As responsible managers of our party in the state, we feel that these actions cannot be justified or excused, particularly in view of our recent experience,” the statement read.

The party also suspended all other members of the Poroye led executive pending their appearance before the State Disciplinary Committee of the party on August 2, 2017.

The Daily Times recalled that the PDP in the state broke into two factions in the wake of the November 2016 Governorship election of the state.

The faction led by Biyi Poroye decided to support the business magnate, Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of the PDP for the gubernatorial election.

While the Clement Faboyede led faction picked Eyitayo Jegede as its own candidate in the same party for the election.
