Omo – Agege charges Urhobos to sustain cultural heritage

The Senator representing Delta Central District of Delta State in the Senate, Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo- Agege, has charged the Urhobos to sustain their rich cultural heritage.

Omo – Agege who gave the charge in a lecture titled, ‘’Challenges and Prospect of Urhobo Progress Union ( UPU ) in Contemporary Times’’, expressed worries over the near extinction of the Urhobo Language on Wednesday

He stated that it was the responsibility of the present generation of the Urhobos to sustain their cultural heritage as the unifying force of the Urhobo Nation.

Omo – Agege commended the UPU for doing a great job in organising Urhobo events all over the world, adding that such exposures would promote the cultural identity of the Urhobo people.

The federal law maker added that “ We have seen the fast near extinct of Urhobo Language among our youths.

This is a major challenge to us all. And it must be addressed urgently through concerted actions and not mere rhetorics.”

Meanwhile the Olare-Aja of Koko Community, Pa Richwell Atsenuwa, has commended the decision of the Warri North Local Government Council Chairman, Honourable Smart Asekutu, for returning the official bank account of the council to Ecobank Branch at Koko.

Pa Atsenuwa who expressed disappointment at the move by past chairmen to move the account of the council out of its own domain to other local government area, said it did not speak well for the council.

While thanking the council boss for honouring not only his plea to return the council’s account to Koko branch of Ecobank, but the entire Koko community, the Olare-Aja of Koko promised to reciprocate the gesture of the council chairman with a remarkable gift of parcel land in Koko.

He also promised same gesture for the present commanding Officer, 19 Battalion of the Nigerian Army at Koko as well as to one Brigadier-General Ikomi as token of his appreciation for their efforts in sustaining the peace in the community.

Also speaking, the Koko Community Youth Chairman, Comrade Gbedimi Amurun, thanked Hon. Asekutu for the bold move to return the council’s account to the Koko Branch after many failed attempt by past administrations in the council.

He described the move as a worthy development and a big win for the people of the community, noting that as the only main bank in the council’s headquarters, it would now have more cash to to carter for its customers in the locality.

Some staff of the council who also spoke expressed joy at the change of bank by the council from Sapele to Koko, adding that would no longer travel to Sapele for minor banking transactions.
