Okonkwo tourney enters semi- final stage
Semi- final matches of the on-going Season 15 of the annual Bishop Mike Okonkwo football tournament will be decided on Saturday August 19, 2017 at the Practice Pitch of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Lagos.
According to the fixtures released by the Local Organising Committee of the championship, FC Bethel will trade tackles with Synergy Ultimate Strikers while Young Tale 99 FA will face Young Stars in the second semi- final match.
To get to this stage of the tournament, Young Talent 99 FA recorded a 1-0 victory over Soccer 99 FC while Young Stars defeated Potters FC by 5-4 penalties.
FC Bethel also recorded 8-7 penalty defeat over Sam Jassy after their game ended 1-1 at regulation time, just as Synergy Ultimate Strikers recorded a 2-1 victory over hard fighting Staruf FC.
Speaking on the semi- final matches, Chairman of the LOC, Deacon Malachy Ndubuzor expressed confidence that all the teams will live up their expectation having emerged as the best four among the 64 teams that started the championship.
Ndubuzor while reminding the teams of the need to continue playing to the rules charged them to be focused and disciplined even as he announced that the LOC will continue to ensure that only the best teams qualify for the finals slated for Saturday September 2, at the Yaba College of Technology.
