Ogun commend journalists on role in 1993 election

The Ogun State Government has commended the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on the pivotal role played during the strugle for the annulment of 1993 general election by the defunct military ruler,General Ibrahim Babagida.

Commissioner for Youth and Sport, Mr. Afolabi Afuape who gave the commendation at the June 12 Media Comemorative March in memory of the late Chief Kashimawo Olawale Abiola at the Funturf Center at MKO International Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta.

He said if not for journalists the memories of Chief MKO would have been forgotten, adding that June 12 should be declared a national holiday as the election that brought about the date has been adjoudged the most free and feer general election ever conducted in Nigeria by Local and International bodies.

In his goodwil message the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Chapter, Comrade Sole Sokunbi said the role played by Journalists can not be overenphercise, saying that Journalists would always support any programme initiated in respect of late MKO Abiola has history surrounding the death of MKO would continue to be in the memories of Nigerians.
