Odigbo becomes second president of Rotary Club Umuahia
The Assistant Secretary General of Amachara Welfare Association, Rotarian Ezekwem Nnabuihe Odigbo, has been installed as the second President of Rotary Club of Umuahia North district 9142 Nigeria for 2017/2018 Rotary year.
In his speech during the event which took place at the multipurpose hall, Umuahia North L.G.A, the chairman of the occasion, Elder Chimechefulam Emelogu Obioma, encouraged members of the Club to strive to promote the course of humanity in their services and imbibe what they teach/preach, doing it objectively so that they will be successful as a chapter.
He reminded those that gathered for the event that Rotary Club only engage those who are willing to give out, who care about others and the society at large.
Speaking shortly after the installation, Rotarian Odigbo promised to do his best so that the club under his watch will create an indelible mark/footprint on the sand of time.
He said each Rotary year comes with a call to service, adding, “This year, the RL President have asked us to make a difference. Ladies and gentlemen, we are actually going to make a difference in our community”.
He pointed out that his administration will donate education kits and materials to primary schools in Umuahia, help to eradicate polio, provide end polio jacket to Umuahia North health centre,
plant at least 1,000 trees within Umuahia North, create awareness for cervical and prostrate cancer, provide one blood bank fridge to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia and carry out blood donation campaign in FMC, Umuahia.
Earlier in his valedictory speech, the immediate past president, Rotarian Prince Onugu Okechukwu Mba, admitted that his tenures as both the charter President and first president of the club were very challenging, adding,
“but when I remembered the promises I made during my installation, I did not allow these challenges to weigh me down”.
He, however, said with the cooperation of the Board of Directors and the entire members as well as friends of Rotary, the club was able to stand to the chagrin of those who had thought that the Rotary Club of Umuahia North would have been delisted.
He said his tenure was able to enhance Rotary image by constructing and installing a Rotary bill board in front of Umuahia North L.G.A, secure a permanent place of fellowship inside the Umuahia North premises and carried out End polio programme and free medical scheme to the populace in Umuahia North L.G.A.
In his short remarks, the Chairman, 2017/2018 Installation Committee, Rotarian Michael Chukwudi Ibegbulam, said the club is poised to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise in particular, to encourage and foster the development of acquaintances as an opportunity for service among others.
Interacting with newsmen, the father of the second president, Elder Nwagbo S. Odigbo, who was overwhelmed with joy, thanked God for His providence.
He commended the immediate past president who he said through his magnanimity made it possible for his son to be installed as the second President of the club. He promised to encourage his son through fervent prayers.
He said: “I and my entire family will be praying for him unceasingly and where he requires our advice we will do so.
Where he needs our assistance, morally, financially and otherwise, by God’s special grace, we will do so. I pray God to give him the enablement to carry the club to a higher heights in Jesus name”.
The event featured inauguration of board of directors, induction of new members and presentation of awards.
Those honoured include the MD/CEO of Derakeen Nigeria Limited, Mr. Chukwuemeka Igbo Nwoke; the CEO Ibe Obioma & Associates, and Elder Ibegbulam Emelogu Obioma among others.
