Obi has no chance against Tinubu in 2027, says Biodun Olujimi

Biodun Olujimi, former deputy governor of Ekiti state, says Peter Obi does not stand a chance against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Olujimi, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), dismissed Obi’s political prospects, describing Tinubu as an unmatched political strategist.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Thursday, the former senate minority leader said Obi’s appeal during the 2023 election cannot be replicated.

“The rhetoric of the last election will not work again, except Obi comes with another gimmick,” she said.

“And you see, Tinubu is a politician, a man who knows the terrain well. This is the first time we are having a dyed-in-the-wool politician as president. He knows his onions; he knows all of us. He has been in the system for very long. It’s tough.

“This is a man who has worked with everyone, who has been useful to everyone, who has had opportunities to assist governments. Beating him? Uphill task.”

Olujimi added that even if Obi were to contest under the PDP, he would pose no significant challenge to Tinubu’s re-election bid.

She also defended her decision to leave the PDP, the party under which she rose to national prominence. According to her, the party has lost direction.

“This government is pragmatic. It’s resolute, it’s taking tough decisions and running with the decisions,” she said.

“It’s not like other governments — taking tough decisions and when people start to complain, dropping it and making them comfortable again, going back to the old ways.

“Rather, it’s taking the bull by the horns and moving on, and that is what I saw in the new APC. I am telling you that it is this government that made me join the APC, not any other.”

Olujimi said she could not remain in a party and work against it — a veiled reference to Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory, who remains a PDP member despite openly backing APC.
