Nursing background makes me a better therapist, says Aderemi Hellen Fiyin, CEO, Murrays Corner

While being a sex therapist can be challenging in the African setting, cognate professional experience will go a long way in making the job easier for practitioners.

This is according to Aderemi Hellen Fiyin, founder and CEO of Murrays Corner, an integrated medical spa, herbal sex therapy, beauty and wellness centre in Akure, Ondo State capital.

She made the assertion recently while speaking about the challenges and the beauty of running natural, herbal sex and general wellness business in Nigeria.

Drawing from her experience as a professional nurse-turned-therapist, she said: “My profession has helped me a lot in my line of business in the sense that unlike a ‘layman’ who knows nothing about women’s reproductive organs, I have a better idea and how it works is not new to me. This knowledge has helped me greatly, such that when these women bring their issues and complaints about their systems, I easily understand; this has improved my expertise, especially concerning my business of aphrodisiac, fertility and beauty spa.”

Aderemi Hellen Fiyin who went fully into the entrepreneurship side of sex and fertility therapy in 2018 also spoke about the biggest lesson she learned from the process. “My biggest lesson is, the imperative not to quit in the face of a challenge. I felt like giving up when I started, but it was no option for me, so I had to rebrand my life and develop a thick skin,” she stated.

Speaking further, she avowed that the work of a sex therapist in a male-dominated society is “not for the weak.”

Said she: “It was challenging, but the beautiful reviews from clients encouraged me.”
In three years, she has been able to build Murrays Corner into a viable, sustained and value-adding institution.

“Presently, we have three subsidiaries under Murrays Corner conglomerate,” she affirmed.
