NSCDC, FCCPC forge alliance to strengthen consumer protection in Anambra

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has concluded plans to partner the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to enhance consumer rights protection in Anambra State.
This was disclosed by Commandant Maku Olatunde, the State Commandant of NSCDC, when he received the Zonal Coordinator of FCCPC South East Zone, Mrs. Francisca Obialor, and her team at the State Command’s Headquarters, Awka.
Commandant Maku, represented by Deputy Commandant Prominence Ukaobi, emphasized the importance of cooperation between regulatory bodies and enforcement agencies in promoting quality products that satisfy consumer needs.
The NSCDC State helmsman expressed the Command’s willingness to collaborate with FCCPC through joint enforcement in resolving consumer grievances and providing redress for any infractions encountered.
According to him, the strategic alliance marks a significant step towards promoting a safe, fair, and transparent marketplace, where consumers can access goods and services with confidence.
The State Commandant said that the NSCDC looked forward to working with the FCCPC on various initiatives, including consumer education, investigation of consumer complaints, and enforcement of relevant laws and regulations for the benefit of Nigerians.
Earlier, Mrs. Francisca Obialor, the FCCPC South East Zonal Coordinator, said the purpose of the visit was to establish a relationship between the NSCDC and FCCPC, with the objective of having a seamless working relationship in tackling consumer protection.
Mrs. Obialor stated that the FCCPC is committed to ensuring a fair and competitive marketplace, where consumers are protected and businesses operate within the bounds of the law.
The FCCPC South East Zonal Coordinator highlighted the Commission’s mandate, saying, “Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) was formed in 2018 and signed into law in 2019.
“Our mandate is to develop and promote fair, efficient, and competitive markets in the Nigerian economy, to also facilitate access by all citizens to safe products, and secure the protection of rights for all consumers.”
