NMC vows to develop human capacity in statistics

The National Mathematical Centre (NMC) has pledged to pursue a sustainable  policy in  human capacity building in the area of statistics and mathematical sciences as part of effort to develop appropriate initiatives and resources of international standing for the re-awaking and sustaining of interest in the Mathematical Sciences.
A press statement which was signed by the agency’s head of Information, Mr. Onyekachu Njoku, said the Chief Executive of the Centre, Professor Stephen Onah, gave the assurance at the closing ceremony of a one week workshop in Computer Driven Data Analysis in Abuja.
Prof. Onah, who also maintained that the workshop was organised as part of the Centre’s effort to train and equip higher level personnel in academics and industry in both the public and private sectors, stated that data analysis helps in national planning and development.
He stressed that the workshop provided the participants with the opportunity to ascertain ways to translate and analyze data for national development.
The Coordinator of Statistics Programme of the Centre, Professor Funmilayo Saporu, pointed out that the training afforded the participants the rare opportunity to understand how to generate process and analyse data.
He said that the application of the knowledge gained from the workshop will assist to achieve national set goals. Participants were drawn from Ministries, Departments and Agencies like Nigerian Customs Service, Salaries, Income and Wages Commission, Universities, among others.
