NITDA seeks Europe’s partnership for Nigeria’s digital economy pursuit

National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has embraced European Union (EU’s) partnership towards deepening Nigeria’s digital economy.

Dr. Isa Pantami, NITDA’s director general, disclosed this as the European Union delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS visited him in Abuja.

Ambassador Michel Arrion, the leader of the delegation, stated the visit was to familiarize members with the agency, having identified NITDA as a key stakeholder in the IT industry in the region.

Arrion solicited NITDA’s presence in receiving and engaging the Vice President of the European Union on issues such as climate change, migration, and promoting a digital economy between both regions.

The European Union VP, a former prime minister of Estonia, a country that has achieved 99 percent implementation of e-Governance is scheduled to arrive Nigeria next month in preparation for the EU-Africa Economic and Development sommit in Cote d’Ivoire.

The EU, he said, will assist Nigeria to overcome the challenges of Interoperability of data management.
“African is a strategic partner of the European Union; Nigeria is a market with a lot of opportunities and less competition due to the size of its population,” he noted.

Working together to build a digital economy, he added, would be of great advantage and this would boost the capacity of youths, and stem the brain drain from Nigeria.
