Nigerian Breweries donates occupational theraphycentre to Maryland

 

 

Heineken Africa Foundation in collaboration with Nigerian Breweries Plc (NB) and The Learning Place Centre (TLPcentre), yesterday commissioned an Occupational Theraphy Centre at the Maryland school complex in Lagos, to improve learning for children with special needs.

Speaking on the importance of the project, the Corporate Media Adviser, NB Plc, Mr Kufre Ekanem, said, “We hope that this project will help address the problem of cautism in our society. We trust that the facilities and the services provided here would be used for the welfare of the challenged with the condition.”

He further thanked the management of TLPcentre, the Lagos State Ministry of Education, AACTION Autism, USA and other stakeholders for their support for the project.”The project, undertaken by this collaboration covers the training of medical professionals in the US on diagnosing autism, renovation and kitting of the classrooms as well as the upgrade of the Occupational theraphy in Lekki and Maryland. The Lekki centre has since commissioned and put to use”.

The facilities at Maryland includes the hiring of an occupational therapist who will be working with the children. The collaboration will sponsor the therapist for six months.

Inspite of this, the Director, TLP Centre, Mrs Bolanle Adewole called on other NGOs and the government in particular to assist in order to make sure there was occupational therapists at the centre after six months.

Over the years, the partnership between the Heineken Africa foundation and Nigerian Breweries has imparted positively on a number of communities across Nigeria.
