Nigeria to promote innovations, SMEs and Startups @ ITU Telecom World 2016

 The Nigerian government through its agency, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said it is set to promote Nigerians with innovative ideas in the areas of e-environment, e-agriculture, e-education, e-health and e-commerce at this year’s International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Telecom World, scheduled to hold in Bangkok, Thailand 14th to 17th November.

  In addition, the commission revealed that the government will use the global platform to encourage technology hubs and entrepreneurship in the area of e-finance and e-government, adding that the ITU Telecom World provides a platform to accelerate Information and Communications Technology innovation for social and economic development.

“The ITU provides a platform, where policy makers and regulators meet industry experts, investors, SMEs, entrepreneurs and innovators. We want to sponsor entries in the above categories as part of the Nigeria’s delegation to ITU Telecom World 2016,” the NCC announced in an advertorial signed by Tony Ojobo, Director of Public Affairs.

 The Commission stated further that participation at the ITU Telecom World 2016 will afford the winners the opportunity to showcase their innovation to the international community at the Nigeria pavilion.

NCC stated further that for those interested should send a detailed power point presentation of the innovation that is driven by ICT, which positively impact on the socioeconomic development of the community to the Commission, as entries close by August 4, 2016.

 As part of its effort to give exposure to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in the country, NCC has also promised to sponsor some SMEs in the above listed categories to the ITU Telecom World 2016.
 The commission believes that SMEs and Start-ups are critical to ensuring economic growth in a sustainable and inclusive manner.

“SMEs represent an essential source of economic growth in an industrialized countries, as well as in emerging economies,” NCC statement added.
