Nigeria drops 6 places in FIFA ranking amid big win against Cameroon

Nigeria has dropped six places to 44 in the latest FIFA World Rankings released Thursday, despite a 4-0 home win over higher ranked Cameroon in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month.
The Super Eagles are also fifth in Africa.
The consolation is that they are now better ranked to Cameroon at 45th in the world, sixth in Africa after beating the African champions 4-0 in Uyo and held them to a 1-1 draw in Yaounde to stay on course for a sixth World Cup final appearance.
Nigeria’s only rival to next year’s World Cup, Zambia is still a lowly 78th in the world and 16th in Africa.
Both teams clash in a crunch World Cup qualifier on October 7 in Uyo.
The Eagles top Group B with 10 points, three points ahead of second-placed Zambia.
Nigeria needs a win to seal their qualification to Russia 2018.
