Nigeria can end extremism, Boko Haram insurgency, says Zamba

A consultant and resource person at the Leadership Center Nigeria Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna, Dr. Abayomi Zamba has said that religious extremism and all forms of violence could be eradicated from Nigeria if the right policies are put in place by government.

” Although Boko haram and all forms of violence in the north east has been degraded, but the issue of insurgency has to be addressed.”

He made this known in a conference held by a non- governmental Organisation, Ufok Dialouge foundation in collaboration with United Nation Women and other partners at Alausa, Lagos.

He maintained that government should undertake other characterization process that would ensure a lot of support, encouragement and counsel that could well mobilize the persons affected by violence back into the society.

“I know it would take a long time to make government programmes and activities become reality.”
“But people are worried as we need a government institutions and committee to ensure monitoring those who have drop their arms are integrated and welcome back to the society.”

Zamba noted that victims of violence and insurgency should be giving peace education and attached to human right organisations, tendering their issue’s profile that would properly integrate them into the system while government programmes should be geared towards developing the fight against countering extremism in the country.

However, the military operation became necessary to confront the violence Boko haram while persons who religuish their weapons are taking care of at the internal displaced persons camp by government and cooperate organisations.

Also speaking on youth believing that the Nigeria government has failed its people. Zamba said that the government should be seen with some good agenders, as one cannot expect scarifice from the youth if the government cannot provide the common needs of the masses which include social amenities and electricity.

He warned Nigerians against violence and extremism, urging all to embrace love, tolerance and peace education while those in authourity should govern the society in the right way.

“We would not support any youth taking laws into their hands by destroying the source of fund for the economy.”
