Niger NDLEA arrests 454 drug suspects
In an effort to reduce drug abuse in Niger State, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 454 suspects with a total of 3,185.310kg of various illicit drugs, mostly cannabis, in the 2014 and 2015. The State Commander, Mr. Joseph Iweajunwa, while briefing newsmen in Minna, on Wednesday, said that despite the challenges the Command encountered last year, it still did well.
Iweajunwa said that, “in the area of arrests and seizures, the Command, in 2015, recorded a total of 286 suspects and seizure of 1,614.529kg of various drugs against a record of 168 suspects and seizure of 1,570.781kg of various drugs in 2014.” He also said that out of the suspects, in year 2014 and 2015, 99 had so far been convicted by Federal High Court, Minna. The Command urged the state, and the nation, in general, to articulate how best “our communities can be healthy without drugs”, and said that “it is the responsibility of all us to help to better society.”
