New Rights Group Joins CLO

Foremost civil society group in Nigeria, the Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), has received a new human rights group, Christ for the Defense of Human and Community Rights & Development Initiative (CDHRDI) into its fold.

The CLO inaugural meeting was held at CDHRI’s headquarters at Ilapo, Alagbado area of Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos.

In his welcome address, human rights activist and Founder/President of the new group, Comrade Prophet Oladele Omoniyi, announced the purpose of the merger of CDHRI with the Civil Liberties Organisation:

“The CDHRI is an organisation that fights for people’s rights, assist widows and promote the development of the communities around us. After a careful consideration, my members and I, decided to join forces with the CLO so we can, together, fight for the protection of people’s rights since we have and share the same aims and objectives.

“On behalf of my 50 member-strong NGO, we hereby pledge to belong and work together with the Civil Liberties Organisation to defend and promote the principles and practice of fundamental human rights as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution and in accordance with the African Charter on Human and People’s rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights” Omoniyi said.
