New Acting NHIS Executive Secretary resumes, promises new direction

The newly appointed Acting Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Mallam Atthiru Ibrahim on Tuesday, takes over the leadership of the agency.

Ibrahim assured the staff of the NHIS and other stakeholders that it would no longer be business as usual.

He said that he would use his wealth of experience in the implementation of NHIS scheme and activities to ensure better healthcare for nigerians.

The acting ES stated this in Abuja while addressing staff of the scheme at the Cooperates Headquaters, solicited their cooperation to ensure all outlines programmes and policies are carried out effectively.

Ibrahim said; “The Re-accreditation process of Health Management Organisations (HMOs) and the Monthly payment for capitation to HMOs that is currently on-going is sacrosanct to his mandate as he hold sway in acting capacity for Three Months”.

He however charged the management of the Scheme, to gear up in delivering affordable and easy access to healthcare for everybody in the country.

However, he promised to continue with the policies of the suspended Executive Secretary, Professor Usman Yusuf, whom he said were geared towards improving the sharp malpractices of some stakeholders in the delivery of healthcare services to enrollees.

Until his appointment by the Federal governmnet, Mallam Atthiru Ibrahim was the General Manager Contributions Management Department in the Scheme’s Corporate Headquarters, Abuja and also a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Economist of Nigeria.

The Ag. Executive Secretary whose contributions in the advancement of health insurance in the country earned him an award for Selfless Service, Hard Work and Dedication to Duty by the 50th National Council on Health.

His dedication to duty also played out as he was accorded the Best Zonal Coordinator by the then NHIS Chief Executive Mr Dogo Muhammad, while he held sway as the Zonal Coordinator North-Central.
