NDLEA seizes N58m worth of tramadol at Apapa port
Again, the operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized no fewer than 581 million tablets of tramadol, during search operations at Apapa Port in Lagos.
Principal Staff Officer, Public Affairs, NDLEA, Jonah Achema, for the anti-narcotic agency, in a press statement made available to Ngerian NewsDirect on Monday said, the search of the 11 new containers impounded by the Nigeria Customs Service, yielded result as 241 million tablets of tramadol, weighing 118 metric tons, were discovered.
According to our correspondent findings in November 12, customs operatives impounded 12 containers at Apapa Port and handed them over to NDLEA and when searched, 340 million tablets of tramadol were discovered.
This brings to 581 million tablets of tramadol so far discovered within the two days of the search operations at the port.
According to Achema, the tablets are in various dosages ranging from 120 to 250 milligrams and above and the permissible threshold of 50 and 100 milligrams.
He further explained that the containers, originating from India have been on the watch-list of NDLEA since November 2017 and have just been positioned for search by Nigeria Customs Service.
His words:“There are 39 more containers to be searched which the Agency strongly believes to contain tramadol.”
It could be recalled that NDLEA about this time in 2017 intercepted 160 million tablets of tramadol at the same port and these tablets were imported from India, using false documents from an unregistered company.
