MTN donates 30 sets of computers to FCT school

With regard to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), the Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) recently visited Government Science and Technical College (GSTC) Kwali, Abuja with loads of surprises.

It was a boost to the fairly new school as the MTN made a donation of thirty (30) sets of desktop computers and some library books to support the advancement of science education in the Federal Capital Territory, especially in the area of ICT.

The leader of the delegation, Mr. Nazeef Yakubu, explained that the gesture is in fulfillment of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility and an innermost desire to see FCT students at par with the international community in today’s era of technological innovation.

The delegates also took time out for interaction with the students on a lecture tagged ’21 Days Yello Care’. Some students were presented with souvenirs based on their performance during interactive sessions.

The principal of the school, Malam Guregi Ndako, on behalf of the Director of the Department of Science and Technology, Mrs. Rosemary Umana, appreciated the company for their kind gesture and promised that the computers as well as the library books will be put into quality use, urging the company not to relent in giving a helping hand towards educational advancement in the FCT.

In a similar development, the Nigerian Information and Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has donated ten (10) sets of computers, inverters and internet facilities to the Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Pyakasa-Maitama with the establishment of a Digital Capacity Building Centre for the school and a one year internet subscription.
This was in response to the plea from the school, especially the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) of the school that approached NITDA for ICT assistance. The school is in full ownership, control and management of the project as well as the centre and as such, its maintenance.

The Principal of the school, Malam Usman Okuru, together with the PTA represented by its chairman, Mr. Chidi Oparauwakwe, was full of gratitude for NITDA’s sacrifice in promoting ICT in the school and promised that the centre will be adequately managed to make great impact on the students’ technological education.
