Monarch tasks former students to assist alma-mater

A monarch in Nasarawa state, the Osu Ajiri, Alhaji Halilu Bala Usman, has tasked old students’ associations to complement government efforts at reviving decayed infrastructures in public secondary schools across the country

Usman, a first class traditional ruler made the call when members of the Nasarawa state chapter of the Government Secondary School, Otukpo Old Boys Association (OGSSOBA) paid him a courtesy call at his residence in Nasarawa Local Government.

Usman said that government alone cannot tackle the infrastructural challenges facing the various unity schools across the country, hence the need for intervention from alumni associations.

He said that “in other climes, alumni associations play critical roles in the development of the educational sector. Such gestures should be encouraged in Nigeria, where privileged Nigerians make personal sacrifice of giving back to their alma mater.”

The 77-years -old traditional ruler, who is an old boy of the Government Secondary School, Otukpo, recalled with nostalgia, his experience when he was in the school, stressing the need for old students to pay more attention to their old schools.

In his earlier remarks, Mathew Kuju, leader of the OGSSOBA delegation said that the essence of the visit was to felicitate with the monarch and brief him on preparations towards the 2019 OGSSOBA national convention slated for May 11, 2019.
