Mob kills 2 robbery suspects in Yenagoa

Two armed robbery suspects have been killed by angry residents of Biogbolo community, in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa state while two others escaped, leaving one other suspect severely injured.

The incident which occurred on Monday caused heavy vehicular traffic along the popular Mbiama Yenagoa Road, until men of the state police command intervened and rescued the injured suspected criminal.

The five- man gang were said to have frequently terrorized the area, robbing unsuspecting business people around the Otiotio/ Erepa business district, majorly populated by Hausa traders.

It was learnt that luck ran out of the gang when they tried to rob a passerby who was at the time having only N1, 000 in his pocket, who raised alarm to alert traders and residents around.

The two deceased and other gang members believed to be in their late 20s, were given a hot chase when passersby noticed they were criminals.

An eyewitness who doesn’t want his name on print, said “those boys are one of the several gangs that terrorize us in this area. We suffer a lot from them on daily basis; they rob us and go free. The police are not doing anything about it, they move freely with firearms in the state and they are not caught, even if they are caught, they’ll be released in no time.”

Another eyewitness said, “at least we will be free for some time now; this is the first and we will continue. Jungle justice will persist so that they will reduce every day crime; they rob people and cross to the other side of the community every day, we are on red alert now.”

According to the Bayelsa state Police Command, the corpses of two suspected armed robbers killed by a mob have been recovered and one arrested and is in our custody.

The state police spokesperson, Asimin Butswat, who confirmed the incident said locally made pistols were also recovered from the scene of the crime, adding that the names of the deceased were yet to be sent to his office.
