Missing 40-year-old hunter found dead in a lake in Delta

A missing 40 year old man, Ausgustine Oyubu, has been found dead in a lake at Otumara Road Ogharefe in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

Augustine Oyubu who was until his death a hunter and lives with his wife, Mrs. Itite Oyubu, in Oghara the headquarters of Ethiope West Local Government.

Mrs. Itite Oyubu told journalist that her husband left for his normal hunting job by 6:30pm, and that she called him at about 8:00pm to know the state of the husband.

According to Mrs. Oyubu, her husband reported that he arrived his hunting destination but had been drenched by the rain. She said that was the last conversation she had with her husband.

The news of a missing hunter rented the air prompting a search party into the said bush area where he normally went for hunting, but that the search was fruitless as the situation entered day four to no avail.

A team of traditionalists, sooth-sayers and native doctors stormed the area for a thorough search, but yielded no result.

However, the body of the hunter was found in a lake by one Dr. Israel Futighe, with no injury inflicted on him but the head, particularly the face, swollen.

Such death, according to the people, is a taboo that had desecrated the land and would not be buried in Oghara land unless the Inotu and Chief Priest will liaise and perform all the necessary rituals and sacrifice.

The death of Augustine Oyubu was felt by all members of Oboromudu community and close associates in the kingdom, as the incident served as a lesson to all hunters in the area, that the bush is no longer safe for hunting.

At the time of filling this report, the family had liaised with Chief Priest and as Oghara tradition demands the remains of Augustine Oyubu would be buried at the place he was found since the cause of death was unknown.
