The United Labour Congress (ULC) under the leadership of Comrade Murtal Usman alongside workers in Kebbi held mass peaceful protest Tuesday in Birnin Kebbi.
According to the State Chairman, Comrade Murtala, the protest is intended to show the federal government that workers in the country are not happy with the way it is handling the issue of National Minimum Wage after the committee spent at least three months to arrive at the agreed sum of N30,000 but the federal government turned deaf ears on the issue.
He added that the bulk of work has been concluded only for President Buhari to send it to the National Assembly to be passed into law.
“The organised labour has been patient enough therefore after the protest the Union will shut down the nation to prove their seriousness, though the strike is not needed but is practically the only option left for the Union”, he said.
The Unionist used the occasion to call on Governor Bagudu to pay Kebbi workers last year’s leave grant while applauding him for prompt payments of salaries also urged him to sustain the tempo.
He described the protest as successful and violence free.
