Mimiko to recruit 1, 500 teachers

As part of a move to invest into the state’s educational system,

Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, has directed that one thousand and fifty (1,050) teachers should be recruited in government schools.

Mimiko, who made the disclosure during a flag-off ceremony and presentation of letters of promotion to the staff of public secondary schools, held in Akure, the state capital, added that about two thousand five hundred Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff of the

State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), had been promoted.

Mimiko, represented by his Deputy, Alhaji Abdulazeez Oluboyo, said the presentation of the promotion letters was a clear demonstration of the commitment of the present

administration to the welfare of the workers in the state.

“Today’s event is vital and important because it is a day set aside to appreciate our men and women, who have continued to render selfless service and dedicated themselves to the upliftment of education in the state,” he stated.

Mimiko said that promotion was an employee’s reward for good performance, noting that it was very important for the beneficiaries to know that the promotion was a recognition of their hard work.

He added that the promoted staffs should reciprocate the gesture by ensuring that they put in their best, to effectively discharge their responsibilities towards their students at all times.

The Commissioner for Education, Jide Adejuyigbe, thanked Mimiko for releasing funds for the 2,500 teachers, who were promoted.

Adejuyigbe, represented by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Steve Awosika, described the promotion as benevolence by the government and appealed to the beneficiaries to justify the confidence reposed in them by reciprocating the kind gesture.

Also, the TESCOM Chairman, Prof. Francis Igbasan, said the present government had been promoting eligible teachers and non-teaching staff as at when due, since 2009.

He said inter-cadre transfer, career reconstruction and conversion cases were being looked into and letters would be given to successful teachers within the shortest time.

Igbasan, however, disclosed that about three principals had been suspended and twenty three teachers suspended for allegedly absconding from duty.
