Media Group Reject Relocation of North Central Development Commission HQ to Minna

By Dooyum Naadzenga

The North Central Media Forum (NCMF) has expressed strong opposition to the proposed amendment to the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) Act, which aims to relocate the commission’s headquarters from Lafia, Nasarawa State, to Minna, Niger State.

This amendment, introduced by Senator Bamidele Opeyemi, has sparked significant backlash from residents of Nasarawa and other areas in the North Central region, who view the move as unnecessary and potentially divisive.

NCMF argues that the current location of the headquarters in Lafia is strategically beneficial due to its proximity to the Federal Capital Territory and its developed road infrastructure.

The forum has called on senators to focus on policies that foster regional development rather than disrupt established decisions that serve the collective interests of the region.

Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada is reportedly working with stakeholders to ensure a fair resolution regarding the relocation issue. His efforts are seen as crucial in protecting the interests of the people of Nasarawa.

The NCMF has urged Senate President Godswill Akpabio and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reject any attempts to move the headquarters, commending the president for previously signing the NCDC Act into law.

In response to the proposed relocation, Rep. Jeremiah Umaru has dismissed the initiative as futile, reaffirming that Lafia will remain the designated headquarters. Governor Abdullahi Sule and other regional leaders have supported this stance, recognizing the importance of maintaining the commission’s headquarters in Lafia.

NCMF remains committed to advocating for unity and development in the North Central region, opposing any actions that could hinder collective progress.
