Man on the run as IPOB members, Fulani herdsmen clash in Imo community

The Police have launched manhunt for a 41-year-old man, Ugochukwu John Anaege after a clash between Fulani herdsmen and members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

The Fulani herdsmen, it was gathered, had attacked Ntueke village in Ideato South LGA of Imo State, injuring several people.

Members of the community, who were said to have been taken unawares, ran helter-skelter for their lives.

It was, however, gathered that Ugochukwu, a prominent member of the IPOB, had sought the help of his members, who stormed the place and were able to repel the attack from the herdsmen.

Reports say there were casualties on both sides after the clash which lasted for several hours.

However, members of the community said they were shocked that the police did not just fail to defend them when it mattered most, but had declared the IPOB members wanted.

A community leader, Chief Emmanuel Onwuka had this to say, “We were visited with a reign of terror on May 25, It was such a helpless situation as the police failed to respond to our distress calls.

“The only help we received was from the members of IPOB; they came in their number and were able to push the Fulani herdsmen back.

“That is why we were shocked when we heard that the police have declared the IPOB members wanted, including our brother, Ugochukwu Anaege; they believe that he is the one that brought in the IPOB members.

“What is wrong in IPOB members coming to fight for us, when the police could not respond? So, I don’t know why the police should declare them wanted.”
