Man bags 9 months imprisonment for stealing vehicle spare parts

A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Suleiman Rabiu, 30, to nine months imprisonment for stealing vehicle spare parts.

Rabiu, a resident of Jabi Motor Park, Abuja, was arraigned on two-count charge of joint act and theft.

The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, however, gave him N5,000 option of fine for the first count charge or three months imprisonment.

He said the second count charge was without any option of fine, he must serve the jail term.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, told the court that one Vincent Ngbekem, of Delta Transport Limited, Utako, Abuja, reported the matter at Utako Police Station, on May 29.

Obatomi said on that same date, the convict and two others now at large, formed common intention and dishonestly broke into the transport premises.

“They stole some items which include, block engine, top cylinder, bottom plate, four connecting rod, bolt and nuts, injector head, oil pumping casing and oil, all valued at N1. 3 million,

“During police investigation, he confessed to the crime,’’ she said.

The prosecutor said that the offence was punishable under Sections 79 and 288 of the Penal Code.
