Man accused of assaulting women in Cairns

A man will remain behind bars, accused of sexually assaulting three separate women in 30 minutes in Far North Queensland.

Police say the women were approached by a man while out for an evening walk in Manoora, near Cairns late last month.

The 28-year-old is accused of trying to talk to the women before allegedly touching them inappropriately, then fleeing on foot.

Cairns Police Detective Acting Inspector Jason Smith said he was concerned about the man’s intentions.

“This was a shocking offence and so many offences had occurred in such a short space of time. He was clearly a motivated offender”.

“We’ve actually been able to identify further offences all committed at or about the same time and that includes an attempt to enter a motor vehicle where a woman receded and also a break and enter offence.

“Inspector Smith warned people to take caution when out exercising, especially as social restrictions are eased across the state.
