The magic of thinking big

Even in the midst of recession, you must keep thinking big, making big plans and followed them up with massive action. All those who have broken the frontiers of history are people who think the unthinkable. They are ordinary people like you and me who are just envision what is doable, roll up their shirts and get to work. In Nigeria, I discover that people are doing too many analyses and too much talking instead of working. Let me tell you, Europeans, Americans, Chinese and Japanese will not come and develop Nigeria for us. No one is coming to take us out of recession. When we borrow, huge sums of money, we are only postponing the evil days. My advice let us go through the pains now so that we can reap the gains later. It is up to us to rise and build this nation. As an individual, it is up to you whether you want to be rich or poor. God does not make people rich or poor; you are the architect of your faith. Lazy people can never be rich. Thieves can never be rich. You should never be jealous of those who looted the treasury because they will lose all the money they have stolen.
For you to be successful you must expand your thinking and concentrate on what you want make happen. Don’t think of the comatose economy. People will keep saying that the economy is bad and that there is no job.  But don’t ever listen to naysayers. As a matter of fact, good entrepreneurs made more money during recessions than when the economy was doing well.
Honestly, it is not easy to get to the top in life; it will require self control, persistence, discipline and above all determination. Just concentrate and think about what you want to accomplish all the time. Refuse to think like the ordinary people. Going to work and looking at the time of closing, carry your bag and rushing home will never get you to the top. You must determine to burn the bridge behind you and become an extraordinary person. Refuse to be like those who do things in the generic way.
My life changed when I was 12 years old. I was instructed by my father to go and attend a burial ceremony of a man who lived in a nearby village. When I got there I met very poor people where the dead man lived.  When they searched his pocket the only thing they could find was few coins and a cut of tobacco. He became sick in the village and nobody could care for him and he died. He was 55 years, with no wife and children. Even the room he lived belonged to his senior brother. It was a defining moment for me because I have seen the same man come to work for my father in his farm. He was a hardworking man who, never had his own farm, but kept working for others.  He never used his mind to think and never did something worthwhile in life. And when he died he had no burial. He was wrapped in some dirty rags and buried in a shallow grave. When I left the village that day, I decided that I was going to make something out of life and leave a legacy for mankind.
For you to be successful in life, the friends you keep are very important. What kind of people do you regularly meet with? You will take on the nature of your environment. You must stay with those with positive thinking. Attend seminars, conference and go to places where they discuss great business ideas. Some people can sit down for hours discussing about politics and football that will not bring any money to them. You must see yourself as someone very important and whose time is very precious. Only seek counsel from those doing well in their businesses. Never ask for advice from people who only know how to talk and not doing anything tangible.
More importantly, after you have thought through your big idea, put it into massive action. Knowing is not enough, doing is the magic. When you start doing something, doors of opportunities will begin to open and people will start coming around to help you. Plunge everything into your idea, don’t hold back at all. Think big and proffer solutions to big problems and never limit yourself.
