LCDAs: OGSIEC holds referendum in 5 councils

The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC), on Wednesday, said it would conduct Referendum on the propriety or otherwise of five disputed Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) proposed by the Ibikunle Amosun led administration in the state.

OGSIEC Chairman, Alhaja Risikat Ogunfemi, who disclosed this to newsmen at a press conference in Abeokuta, the state capital, explained the planned Referendum followed a directive which her commission received from the State House of Assembly (OGHA).

Mrs. Ogunfemi, who disclosed that the exercise is slated for next week Thursday, April 21st, 2016, further stated that whatever outcome of the Referendum would enable the state House of Assembly to complete the process leading to the creation of the LCDAs in the state.

The state Assembly had witnessed discordant tunes, protests and petitions from citizens and residents of the state over the creation of five LCDAs which many argued fall short of the desired and original boundary delineation.

The five affected LCDAs are Afon Local Council Development Area with Headquarters in Oloka – Afon, Sango /Ijoko Local Council Development Area with Headquarters in Sango and Abeokuta North East Local Council Development Area with Headquarters in Ita – Iyalode.

Others are Ifesowapo Local Council Development Area with Headquarters in Imodi – Imosan and Coker – Ibogun Local Council Development Area with Headquarters in Ibogun.
