Lagos spends N11bn on schools infrastructure

In its efforts to provide conducive teaching and learning environment by making available adequate educational facilities in public primary and secondary schools in the State has committed the sum of Eleven Billion, Fifty-Nine Million, Four Hundred and Ninety –Five Thousand, Two Hundred and Three Naira, Fifty Kobo (N11,059,495,203.50) upgrading schools infrastructure.
Disclosing this on Monday at the Ministerial Press Briefing of the Ministry of Education, Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule who also superintends the
Education Sector explained that the sum of N2.4 billion was expended on the construction of 9 new school buildings, N3.7bn on the rehabilitation of 79 school buildings, while another 79 buildings had their blown off roofs replaced at the cost of N941m.
She added that the sum of N616m was spent on the construction of Sixteen (16) Schools fence to enhance security of students and staff alike. Procurement and supply of 100 Principals, 1000 Teachers and 40,000 dual bench and table students furniture cost N1.27 bn while installation of Laboratory fittings, furniture and supply of Science Equipment for 30 senior secondary Schools was completed at the cost of N512m.
The State Universal Basic Education Board also expended the sum of N1.5bn on projects in the primary education sector. According to her, 346 Junior and Secondary Schools benefitted from the distribution of these furniture while 707 double-bunk beds and 469 mattresses were supplied to our schools with boarding facilities at the cost of N48.4m.
Adebule revealed that, a new world class model of block of classrooms recently introduced in our public secondary schools to improve teaching and learning will be completed this year. The foundation of the first 3 of the model schools were laid at Awori College, Ojo, Angus Memorial High School, Somolu and Lagos City College, Sabo-Yaba were undertaken in February, 2017.
