Lagos set to boost tourism with 19 new monuments – Commissioner

The Lagos state government said that 19 new monuments that are presently being constructed simultaneously in different areas across the state would soon be unveiled to further boost the aesthetic landscape of the state.
The new monuments as well as existing ones, the state government noted, would further place the state on the global tourism scene as the hub of Africa’s tourism.
The state acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Akinsola Adebimpe, stated this at Alausa, during the ongoing Ministerial Press briefing to commemorate the second year in office of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as well as to commemorate the 50 years landmark of Lagos State.

According to her, the state government places much importance on the sustenance of the cultural and historical heritage of the people of Lagos State as a way of attracting tourists into the state, hence the erection of monuments that would attract the necessary attention from visitors.

The Commissioner said that the vision of the Ambode-led administration is, in addition to being a tourism hub, to make the State one of the top 10 preferred destinations for tourism and entertainment in the continent.

“In line with the vision of the State government, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture have formulated a project called T.H.E.S.E. (Tourism, Hospitality Entertainment and Sport) to achieve excellence and also generate economic returns to the State.”

“This to a greater extent necessitated the innovation added to the annual One Lagos Fiesta, official launch of the One Lagos Logo, the Lagos Street Party and the allocation of adequate attention to tourism and entertainment in the ongoing celebration of Lagos at 50,” he said.

Akinsola also added that six new theaters will be constructed across the State in the next few months to provide a platform for the teeming young artistes to develop and showcase their talents, noting that a new Museum will also be built on the present site of the Council for Arts and Culture to increase tourism attraction to the state.

She listed the already renovated monuments across the state to include the Tinubu Square Fountain, statue of King Ado – the first crown king of Lagos, statue of Prince Olofin Atekoye, Ma’ami statue, Ojuloge statue, New Moshood Abiola statue and the New Gani Fawehinmi statue.
