Lagos PDP assembly member dumps party for APC

By Alade Tasma, Lagos
The only member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Lagos state House of Assembly, Dipo Olorunrinu on Monday dumped the party and formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
A letter to this effect which was personally signed by the lawmaker was read on the floor of the House at plenary by the Clerk of the House, Mr. Azeez Sanni.
In the letter titled: “Letter of defection from PDP to APC,” Olorunrinu apologized for his late defection, saying “I sincerely apologize that the defection is coming now. I ask for mercy.”
The lawmaker who is currently representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency 01, said he has now seen reasons to join his other colleagues from the PDP who had dumped the party for the APC.
The former PDP lawmaker alluded to and expressed delight in the leadership qualities of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the state Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa and a senior member of the House now a Senator-elect, Sikiru Osinowo.
The decamping legislator described the PDP as a party that lacks structure and vision, saying “that is why I said to myself, I must join the progressives which is the ruling party, APC.”
Commending Olorunrinu for the bold step, the speaker said that “the APC remains the best party in Lagos, there is nothing to gain in PDP. At last, we have the only man standing who has now joined those who are standing. We welcome you. You have always been with us, only that you refused to dump the leaking umbrella,” the state chief lawmaker stated.
