Lagos inaugurates committees for land use, allocation

The Lagos State Ministry of Land Bureau has inaugurated 22 Technical Committees to assist in the area of land use and allocation.

Speaking at the inauguration, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Land Bureau, Mr. Bode Agoro, charged the members to be diligent in approaching the task ahead, adding that they should always ensure that security operatives accompanied them whenever they were on duty.

Commenting further, Agoro said: “The function and duties of land use and allocation committees, as it relates to village execution are clearly spelt out by the executive orders.

“Since the inauguration of the technical committees in 2009 till date, more than 1,200 application were received and considered out of which a total of 130 village were approved for grant of village execution before the end of the tenure of last administration.”

Sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the last administration and the subsequent staff movement/restructuring in the State Civil Service, Agoro further averred that the issue of execution was put on hold.

However, with the rising frequency of demand for village execution, land resettlement and other related subjects, Agoro posited that it was expedient to reconstitute the technical committee, in order to eradicate slum development and ensure effective land titling and physical planning / development guide in the state in line with the state master plan policy.

After administering oath of office on the members, Mr. Kayode Ogunubi was appointed the Chairman of the Technical Committee.

In his remarks, Ogunubi said that the committee on village execution was created with members drawn from various Land Handling, Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode expected the committees to be transparent and fair in discharge of their duties.
