Lady, 39, Narrowly Escapes Jungle Justice Over Bisexual Lifestyle

By Our Reporter

LAGOS – The cultural stigmatisation of people with alternative sexual orientation seems to have reinforced its dangerous trend in Nigeria as gays, lesbians and bisexuals are daily targets of violent attacks, maiming and shaming in the form of jungle justice.

Reports reaching our newsdesk indicates that one Eseosa Oghadeva, a daughter of a cleric was caught in the act of bisexuality when the owner of the house and husband to her accomplice (Franca) came home early unannounced on March 12, 2024.

The man, who instantly raised alarm, drew the attention of neighbours who were vexed and highly irritated with the culprits of bisexuality.

Eseosa who narrowly escaped being killed by the whiskers has allegedly been accused of indulging in bisexual activities for a very long time.

Infuriated by her gay activities, Eseosa’s in-laws and members of her husband’s family immediately demanded for divorce by her husband who however, did not yield but risked his relationship with his family members to stay with her.

According to reports, the in-laws reported the matter to security agents, urging the police to prosecute the culprits according to LGBT laws as enacted in 2014. They insisted that Eseosa and her cohort must be prosecuted and made to face 16 years imprisonment for indulging in the act of bisexuality.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, an elder of the Oghadeva family expressed regrets that Eseosa, who was brought up by a Pastor and in accordance with the dictates of the Christian Faith, has brought disgrace and shame upon the Oghadeva’s family.

He emphasised that the culprits will not escape the wrath of the ancestors, the community, and the law of the land for involving in the sacrilegious act and bringing disgrace to the family and the community. He insisted that the community has declared the culprits wanted and would stop at nothing to prosecute them in any way necessary.

In the mean time, the problem of discrimination against homosexuality in Nigeria has assumed a frightening dimension.

More people are being maimed and killed because of their sexual orientation and there is a strong aversion against gay people, hence the call to decriminalise related laws and statutes to protect people against jungle justice irrespective of their sexual preferences.
