Kwese Basketball League: Defenders lose to Pillars 80-91
Civil Defenders of Abuja on Saturday bowed to Kano Pillars of Kano in the Week 6, Day 2 match of the Kwese Basketball League.
The two Savannah Conference sides played in Abuja as part of their campaign for the League.
Defenders and Pillars went into the match with great zeal but the first quarter ended 20-33 in favour of visiting Pillars, who kept their lead at the end of the second quarter at 43 -49.
Pillars sustained the lead into the third round 59-70 while both sides got 21 points each in the final quarter.
Speaking with NAN, Coach Sani Ahmed of Pillars commended the swiftness of some of the younger players of his opponents.
“ I think they have a lot of so many upcoming players who are very good and quick. I think they did better than their last time they came into the Premiership.
“ We thank God for winning the match at the end of the day,” he said.
Similarly, Coach Paul Gombuar of Defenders said it was a great match even after losing to the defending champions.
“It was a great fight, we really did well and I am sure that my boys will do well in the coming matches.
“We will ensure we participate in the next season, we won’t go to relegation,” he said.
NAN reports that Pillars is the leading other teams in the Savannah Conference having lost only one game of the 11 matches played so far.
