Kwara guber race: Speaker woos royal fathers
Ahead of the forthcoming Governorship election in Kwara the Speaker of the State House of Assembly who is one of the Aspirants in the election had visited royal fathers to solicit their support for his ambition.
Our correspondent, reports that the Speaker submitted his nomination form to contest the number one seat in Kwara under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday in Abuja.
In his bid to actualise his ambition, the Speaker who was accompanied by some serving and former lawmakers of the House on Friday, paid homage to first class monarchs in Kwara North and South Senatorial districts of the state to canvass support.
The first port of call of the Speaker and his entourage was the Palace of Olofa of Offa where he was accorded a rousing reception by thousands of residents of Offa.
The Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Esuwoye while receiving the Speaker explained that America and other Western countries became great due to viable successors.
He said Nigeria’s democracy and Kwara State could become great, if there are successive leaders who are passionate about development of their communities.
The royal father described Dr Ali Ahmad is the only aspirant that is preferred by the traditional institution in the State in view of his Antecedents.
The Olofa urged all PDP delegates and political gladiators in the state to pick Dr Ali Ahmad as the party guber candidate for the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the State.
Earlier, the Speaker had explained that he was in Oloffa’s palace to seek royal blessing, stressing that he would continue to accord traditional institution the respect it deserves.
The Speaker and his entourage were also at at Erin-Ile in Oyun Local Government Area of the state when he paid similar homage to the Elerin of Erin-Ile, Oba AbdulGaniyu Olusookun.
The traditional ruler while supporting the candidature of the Speaker described him as honest and man of integrity, who has the capacity to move the state forward.
The campaign train of the Speaker were also in Patigi, headquaters of the Patigi local Government area of the state in the Kwara North Senatorial district of the state where they were received by large crowd of people with trumpeters and drummers.
The Speaker while addressing the mammoth crowd promised to ensure equal government patronage across the 3 senatorial districts of the state.
The Speaker pledged to give priority to programmes and policies that will improve the wellbeing of the people of the State.
The Etsu of Patigi Alhaji Ibrahim Chatta Umar in his palace while blessing the candidature of Dr. Ali Ahmad commended him for ensuring cordial relationship between the three tiers of government in the state.
The Speaker in his remark said that Traditional Rulers in the State would be given specific roles in the task of ensuring efficient running of his administration.
Our correspondent, reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is yet to fix a date for the conduct of Governorship primaries in the state.
