Kogi state governor Bello apologises to Catholic bishops over statement against the church

Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello has again offered his apologies to the Catholic bishops of Nigeria over a statement credited to him by a section of the media.

Governor Bello was quoted last week to have referred to people angry with the Buhari administration as criminals who looted the country’s treasury but are now unable to pay tithe to the church.

But speaking at the first Kogi Economic and Investment Summit in Lokoja on Tuesday, Bello insisted that he was misquoted.

He asked for forgiveness from the Catholic bishops saying that he will never disparage nor disrespect clerics of any faith.

Governor Bello had come under heavy criticism last week following the interview he granted to state house correspondents on the state of the nation.
