Kano ghost workers’ figure worries labour

The Chairman, Kano State Labour Congress, Comrade Kabiru Ado Minjibir, on Wednesday, expressed concern over the Kano State Government’s claim that it has discovered over 7,000 ghost workers on the state’s pay roll.

The Kano State Government had, on Tuesday, disclosed that the ongoing biometrics verification of civil servants in the state had uncovered no fewer than 7, 629 ghost workers.

According to Ado, it was too early for the government to conclude that all those absent from the verification exercise were ghost workers, bearing in mind that many civil servants from the state were currently on study leave abroad, while others could have genuine excuse as to why they had failed to show up to collect their salaries.

Rather than jumping to conclusions, Ado advised the government to be thorough about the whole thing by printing and placing the names of defaulting workers with their various serving ministries. He said as much as Labour was not in support of the activities of ghost workers in the state, the body would do all that was necessary to protect the interest of its members.
