Jostle for FUT Minna VC by host community hots up

The host community of Federal University of Technology, Minna, have decried what they called the discrimination against its people in the appointment of the institution’s principal officers especially the position of the Vice Chancellor.
The member representing Bosso council (that hosts both the temporary and permanent sites of the university) in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Malik Madaki Bosso, lamented “the ongoing deliberate manipulation of the FUT governing board rules aimed at favoritism.”
Addressing journalists in Minna on Thursday, Hon. Bosso disclosed that his community people would be sensitized and mobilized against the alleged cabal in the institution who are hell bent to hinder an indigene from becoming the Vice Chancellor hence manipulating the governing council rules to witch-hunt their own who is qualified to occupy the position.
He explained that the present VC, Prof Musbau Adewumi Akanji, will leave office by December this year while the host community’s indigene, Prof. Musa Galadima, who is qualified to take over from him, has attained the 10 years professorship.
He accused the present VC and the pro-chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Alkali of ganging up against his aspiration by changing the original rules and criteria of the institution’s senate from zero year to 10 years as a professor to qualify for the vice chancellorship position.
The lawmaker reiterated that the community will rise up against such move this time around notwithstanding the change of the original rules and criteria of the institution’s senate from to zero year 10 years as a professor; the same rule the university used against an aspirant last term, despite being over nine years but not up to the mandatory 10 years as stipulated as at that time.
“The change of the original criteria from to zero year to 10 years is a deep corruption going on in the system and bringing down the standard of education in the country and should be investigated.”
He further lamented that despite the Bosso community donating over 70 hectares of land as sacrifice for the establishment of FUT Minna, it cannot be proud of getting the required admission into the school, employment for its people and even contracts for the immediate host community.
He assured his people that he will fight to see the end of the injustice, saying he has written an open letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state and the National University’s Commission (NUC) to urgently look into the matter for immediate action.
