Islamic scholar regrets 16-yrs of wastage

Rosul of Shafaudeen ‘L Islam, Professor Sabitu Olagoke, has declared that Nigeria’s economy in recession was as a result of the 16 years of misrule that was loaded with a political culture of corruption and impunity between 1999 and 2015.

He made the observation in his Eid-el-Kabir message yesterday in Ibadan, insisting that the change era must of necessity pass through the furnace of redesigning, rebuilding that required diligent work of legal and economic professionals with a touch management experts.

Olagoke urged Muslims to emulate Prophet Mohammed and respect constituted authority. He decried dollar scarcity, fall of oil prices at international market, He stressed the need to functionally diversify the economy.  He called for a prompt to stop the present ugly experience of poverty, hunger, diseases, unpaid salaries, suicide, unwarranted sudden death of people, unemployment and insurgence.

He suggested that the pay package structure of Nigerian political class should reflect the present reality and be commensurate with political office holders’ emoluments either in the United States (US) or Britain stressing that taxation should be used as a tool to effect redistribution of income to ensure fairness and reduce level of poverty instead of harnessing it to turn the poor into a beast of burden.
